Cartel is back! Great hip hop free at Jamendo
November 5, 2008 12:16 pm What a nice surprise I had this morning! The release of the new album on Jamendo Cartel had escaped me, luckily an interview Jamendo Blog is remedied.
For those not conoscesce Cartel, I refer you to an episode of the podcast where I had spent one of his works. This is a hip hop artist of the real ones. Old school, when (I quote from a text of his new album) the blacks were "album" and not ringtones for mobile phones.
And his new album Tha Throwback is a worthy successor to previous "Prepare for Glory" that had impressed me so much. At a time when hip hop seems to have become a cosmetic exercise to copy paste together to show off the lower back of many more possible undressed, Cartel is pushing an album capable of intense, well-designed from the ground and the texts involved. No street rap, hip hop melody that caresses the ears to listen.
And the choice of continuing to publish albums on Jamendo speaks volumes about the impact that the distribution of "legal" and "free" music can have: Cartel interview on Jamendo made it clear that Jamendo is now an indispensable tool for the promotion of his work. Thanks to Jamendo is able to reach a much more extensive than that little niche in the States is still looking for hip hop quality.
If the genre you do not mind, I definitely recommend it to listen to these three albums on Jamendo.
