When a game determines the success of a rock band
September 4, 2008 5:49 pmSmall premise: setting aside the independent artists, and Andre De Pink Folyd, my other great passion is music, Metallica. I know many of you turn up their nose .. the fact remains that St. Anger is one of the best CDs I've ever heard (second only to the Black Album which I had the good fortune to see presented live by the four horsemen of San Francisco to London).
This has little to do with the sense of this post, except as entry points.
Metallica have finished recording, burning, etc.. etc.. their ninth studio album, called `Death Magnetic` and that will be released September 12th in stores (WARNING exits on bays and similar sites do not count
). To promote the new job site has been created ad hoc, Mission Metallica .
Today I finally had time for a ride: first page you'll find a trailer, a sort of history of the group .. short few minutes of healthy and pure exaltation American style that marketers are so fond.
Just watching this trailer I noticed something that made me think: was written in large letters: "Most Requested band in Guitar Hero and Rockband.
Ie being highly requested on a game console was placed at the same level of importance of being second in sales (in the history of modern music) just another band .. The Beatles.
Times are definitely changing, musicians measure (and quantify) the more its success not by counting the number of CDs sold, but by analyzing the impact that their work has in all media and in all environments.
Metallica is an example of a band on one side exploits the wave of opportunity that new media offers, the other will insist on being tied to the old world of the majors and the copyright (remember that Metallica are back the closure of Napster).
It is sad to see that one of the most popular band in the world, with a following of fans as large as a nation, has not had the same courage shown by much less influential bands like Radiohead or NIN.
Despite this and despite what they say that P2P is worse than the plague which invaded Europe in 1600, I 12, I will go and buy the original CD to add the other 8 ![]()

Turn up our noses? And why? It 'was my first band a bit' heavy that I began to like a child. On my first salary (19 years) went to the record store and bought them ALL (I think the last time was Black Album, in my opinion the best of all). From then on every exit I always got the DVD sight unseen, without first having heard nothing. St. Anger I was disappointed, I no longer able to match Black Album. I hope something very beautiful with this latest album (thanks for telling me the release date, did not know!) Will buy for sure.
Hello!
I'm glad to see that someone shares my taste
St. Anger for me is the Black Album was even better, especially on the texts, much more "concrete" and "real" that the delusions of the old dream (which I keep still one of the best albums ever made and never produced). Even at the level of sound, St. Anger has that level of rudeness that the Black Album did not: that record is so perfect that at times seems almost artificial then just see them live to understand that there's nothing artificial about visa that resonate the same way!
The new looks very promising .. I read some reviews that talk about unsustainable rate and speed `astronomical. We'll see. I'm curious to see what they are able to do with the lyrics because for the first time are not written only by James but all members have contributed to all parts.
We'll talk about after 12 ok?
As life has received more 'insult by some purists environments that I attended, because of my historical interest to the metal music (which, logically, it goes well with that for rough reggae ...), I feel able to argue that "Kill 'Em All" is a cool scary, "Ride the Lighting" I was not convinced that "Master of Puppets" is a masterpiece and the sound of drums on "... and Justice for All" is mesmerizing, different, violent, cool.
On other albums I do not pronounce, I never listened carefully.
Here, the detail of texts me missing. I understand little English spoken, sung figuriamci ... Ready to talk about the 12!
