OpenVZ goes Live! Virtualization on Linux at maximum power
May 14, 2007 12:20 pm A few days ago the news that the open source project OpenVZ has released a live version of its virtualization software that, based on Knoppix 5.1.1, allows users to test OpenVZ without necessarily having to install on your hard drive.
OpenVZ is an open source virtualization technology built into the Linux kernel and pogettata to turn and run only Linux-based operating systems.
This may, in some circles, represent a major limitation compared with other virtualization software, but has an incredible advantage, according to its developers: software penalize the performance of a virtualized server only by a factor of between 1% and 3%. This finding, if confirmed by performance tests in real situations, involves a tremendous benefit to the entire server environment (where however the solutions are Linux-based, 90%).
OpenVZ is certainly not a solution intended for use for desktop users, but the server market and in general business circles.
This page describes how to use the new live version to do some testing.
